In the night sky
a thousand voices cry out,
visual spectacle illuminating
the end of each light.
Every color with its moment
of brilliance, then silence.
The children with their sparklers
testifying the 4th is upon us.

The stars hide,
fearing that they might be next.
The teens throwing bombs,
seconds before fingers could burst
in five directions.
Mothers' worried hands,
reaching out to save them,
but disappear quickly
into smoke and laughter.

And when it's over,
we are grateful to still be here,
awaiting next year's brilliant
delights.
Ignoring that even the sun
remained hidden
for all time is short.

Wow... This is very well written. I like how you were able to deal with this theme, it's sort of hard to me. Well done.

I find myself at my best when I am inspired directly by others.

Interesting poem, though I've never much been good at poetry, I like this one.

A couple of editorial comments, my dear:

Every color with it's moment (its, not it's)
of brilliance, then silence. (you want a space after the comma)

Mothers worried hands, (Mothers' — possessive)

awaiting next years brilliant (year's — possessive)

Loved it — happy Independence Day!
